The Walla Recovery · House Shows

Can we come play some music at your house?

You have a living room, and we have songs. When combined, your friends & family are entertained and delighted over an intimate and peaceful evening of storytelling and music.

We arrive with our instruments as a 1-4 piece band and play for about an hour, starting around 7 or 8pm. Sometimes we can provide an opening act as well. If you are enthusiastic about sharing our music, you have a space that can hold 10-50 people, and you can suggest a donation of $5-10 to your friends, then we would love to play for you. See our FAQ below and let me know if we can come to your place!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does a house show cost?

We have a basic fee structure, but it depends greatly on travel expenses and the availability of players. Lots of people tell me it's not as expensive as they thought it would be, yet one of the most worthwhile ways they've used their home. Guests will most likely chip in to offset the cost if you encourage them to. Please contact me and we'll talk specifics.

Q: Do you sell tickets or just leave your guitar case open?

Primarily, we depend on you as the host to guarantee the expense and value of performing at your house. After that approval, we can ask guests to help with your cost in a couple of ways: a) we sell tickets online, or b) you strongly suggest a set donation amount for each attendee. By letting your guests know ahead of time, making an eye-catching sign to collect donations, and giving an announcement to that effect during the show, we find that most costs are covered. When selling tickets online we will take care of all the technical details via EventBrite and send you a quick and easy purchase link to email to your guests. On top of that, we sell CDs and other merch and do our best to make sure your guests enjoy the show.

BTW: Law prohibits the host from collecting any profit or charging admission at the door.

Q: What if it's technically not a house? Or not even indoors?

That might be ok! We've played in churches and apartment complexes and college dorms, backyards and public parks. Enthusiasm is the most important quality here. If you have an idea, let me know and I'll see what we can do.

Q: How loud is it?

We won't be waking the neighbors (probably). We keep it toned down and let our sensitive sides do the talking. We can turn up the volume if necessary (outdoors, bigger rooms, etc.) but if not, we will amplify the sound only to balance out instruments/voices and make sure everything sounds great.

Q: How is the show promoted?

First, you would invite your friends and family in any method you choose (email, phone, card, evite). If there is space remaining, then we would like to let our listeners know who live nearby (via zip code), if you'll let us. Your address will not be publicized, but you or we can let those people know how to get to your place by emailing them privately and individually.

Q: Wait, am I going to have a bunch of people I don't know in my home?

Not if you don't want them there. If we're selling tickets online, only the people you've invited or allowed us to invite will have the link to buy them. We never publicize or give anyone your address without permission. And you can always choose to limit the guest list to your close friends and family.

Just to encourage you who may be on the fence about this: sharing art and/or food in a warm home with people I have never met are some of the most blessed experiences I've had. I want everyone to experience that.

Q: Are you going to be hungry?

Probably! We're always grateful to have a meal prepared for us, but it's not required. If you're so inclined, please let me know.

Q: Can tickets be refunded?

Yes, and the show can be cancelled, if you let us know about it 7 days in advance.

Q: Do you take requests?

Yes! But our ability to actually play those songs is another story ;) It helps if you let us know in advance so we can work up our own rendition of your favorite song. This is a great chance to hear a new perspective on a song that moves you; it's been a keepsake of sorts for hosts in the past.

Q: How do I get started?

Email me (Zack) at . Thank you!
